GIMM Flow Cytometry Platform

The Flow Cytometry Platform provides a state of the art flow cytometry service and expertise to GIMM researchers as well as external groups from other research institutes and companies.

Laboratory staff is well trained in instrument operation, providing support to cell sorting, sample acquisition and data analysis. Training is available for all analytical instruments and SOP are implemented to comply with the highest quality standards required to ensure reproducibility in science.

The need to find solutions to support research projects drives a continuous development of the platform, which aims to follow the advances in the flow cytometry field, collaborates with innovative projects, creates novel tools and methods to advance research, and implements strategies to improve the quality of the provided services.

 

Equipment

Cell Sorters

  • BD FACSAria IIu  (Oeiras): 3 lasers 405nm, 488nm and 633nm; multicolor analysis of up to 9 parameters; full integrated Class II Type A2 biosafety cabinet
  • BD FACSAria III (Lisboa): 4 lasers 405nm, 488nm, 561nm and 640nm; multicolor analysis of up to 16 parameters
  • BD FACSAria Fusion (Lisboa): 4 lasers 405nm, 488nm, 561nm and 640nm; multicolor analysis of up to 16 parameters; fully integrated Class II Type A2 biosafety cabinet
  • Cytek Aurora CS (Oeiras): 5 lasers 355nm, 405nm, 488nm, 561nm and 640nm; 64 fluorescent detectors and; fully integrated Class II Type A2 biosafety cabinet. Allows for high-parameter spectral flow cytometry.
  • BD FACSDiscover S8 (Lisboa): 5 lasers 349nm, 405nm, 488nm, 561nm and 637nm; 78 fluorescent detectors; fully integrated Class II Type A2 biosafety cabinet. The BD FACS Discover S8 is the first cell sorter that integrates imaging and full-spectrum capabilities.
  • BD FACSDiscover S8 (Oeiras): 5 lasers 349nm, 405nm, 488nm, 561nm and 637nm; 78 fluorescent detectors; fully integrated Class II Type A2 biosafety cabinet. The BD FACS Discover S8 is the first cell sorter that integrates imaging and full-spectrum capabilities.

  • BD LSR Fortessa (Lisboa): 4 lasers –  405nm, 488nm, 561nm and 640nm; multicolor analysis of up to 13 parameters; with High Throughput Sampler (HTS) option
  • BD LSR Fortessa SORP (Oeiras):  3 lasers –  442 nm, 488nm, and 561nm; multicolor analysis of up to 10 parameters; one FSC-PMT for small particle analysis; with High Throughput Sampler (HTS) option
  • BD LSR Fortessa X20 (Lisboa): 4 lasers – 405nm, 488nm, 561nm and 640nm; multicolor analysis of up to 16 parameters

Workstations & Software

  • MacFlow 2 (Lisbon) – Data analysis workstation with multiple software installed, including: FlowJo and FCS Express.
  • Moonwalk (Oeiras) -High-performance data analysis workstation dedicated to analysis of spectral flow cytometry data with SpectroFlo, FlowJo and IDEAS software 6.2.
  • Tango (Oeiras) -Remote high-performance data analysis workstation, with multiple software installed: FlowJo and IDEAS 6.4 software and Machine Learning.
  • Mambo (Lisbon) -Remote high-performance data analysis workstation, with multiple software installed: FlowJo and SpectroFlo. Flow cytometry data analysis can be performed either on-site at the Foxtrot workstation (available to all users) or remotely (restricted to Lisbon GIMM users).
  • We also provide access to OMIQ and Cytolution through shared institutional licenses.
