Catarina Martins is a Biologist (graduated from the University of Porto, 2001) and obtained her PhD in Immunology from NOVA Medical School (NMS) in 2015. Currently, she is an Assistant Professor of Immunology at NMS, Lisbon, Portugal, addressing in her classes other specialized topics such as Flow Cytometry, Biosafety, and Quality Assurance.
Catarina is the Technical Director of the NMS Primary Immunodeficiency and Immunology Laboratory, overseeing both diagnostic services and research activities focused on inborn errors of immunity, reproductive immunology, and allergic diseases. She supervises PhD and Master’s students and numerous national and international laboratory internships. She has several scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals and regularly presents her work in talks, oral communications, and poster presentations at national and international scientific meetings. At NMS, she also serves as Coordinator of the Biosafety Committee.
In 2025, Catarina was elected Vice-President of the Iberian Cytometry Society, where she coordinates the Accreditation Working Group. Furthermore, she collaborates with national and international accreditation bodies as a technical and lead assessor for medical laboratories (covering ISO 15189 and ISO/IEC 17025 standards).
