José Rino is Head of the Bioimaging Unit at the Instituto de Medicina Molecular João Lobo Antunes (iMM) since 2009. Between 2016 and 2020, he was also Head of the Flow Cytometry Unit at the iMM.
José has a PhD in Biophysics and a background in Physics Engineering. Even though he can communicate in the language of Biology, he is a physicist at heart, always thinking about the Mathematics and Physics hidden in the complexity of biological processes and passionate about the Technology that can be used to study them.
With more than 20 years of experience in Microscopy, José can also be found outside the dark room of a microscope if a flow cytometer is nearby, and the scientific question requires quantification of cellular populations. Over the years, besides training and providing support to researchers from different institutions, José has collaborated with research groups in various fields, including Cell Biology, Immunology, Virology and Neurosciences, among others.
He is the author of more than 30 publications and has organized and lectured several courses and workshops on Microscopy and Flow Cytometry.
